HORSE & CARRIAGE CAUSEWAY

*Horse & Carriage ONLY - pedestrians cross at their own risk*

Built to keep foot traffic separate from those travelling via coach and carriage, the City of Liathlidor(Grayhaven) devised a two-way, paved-slab causeway to accommodate horse-drawn transportation.  There are several access points, with ingress from the harbor leading into the Foreign Quarter and the southern road by way of the Kingdom Bridgeways, used the most. The causeway runs on a meandering track along the outer edges of each major city block, and connects the port, the  Citadel of Light, the Sparkling Market, and Foreign Quarter to one another.  It also provides coaches and carriages easier access to the road leading to the Kingdom Bridgeways.

Chevalier Dior Grayeus

Dior Grayeus 1(Consort Elf)

[NPC's]

Lord Coel Montachade

&

Chevalier Dior Grayeus

A well-kept barouche carriage drawn by a pair of chestnut brown trotter horses, moved slowly down the causeway of the Sparkling Market.  The sides of the carriage bore the royal blue, gold, and red accented crest of the Noble House of Montachade, drawing a few eyes and eliciting a few excited whispers at the sight.

The open bonnet of the carriage revealed two Elves seated within, one of whom was the Lord of the house himself, Coel Montachade.  It was no secret that Coel was considered one of the most eligible bachelors in Liathlidor, which is why the second Elf in the carriage drew no small amount of envious stares.

Dior Grayeus was a well sought after chevalier servant amongst the nobility of the Kingdom Bridgeways who's predilections trended in that direction.  He went to great lengths and took great pains to maintain his appearance in order to catch the attention of those who allowed him to live as comfortably as possible.  He knew he was attractive, his pale complexion unmarred by scars or blemishes, with high swept cheekbones, and full lips. He considered his best feature to be his bright, blue-green almond shaped eyes which were perfectly offset by his elegantly coiffed black hair.

Dior had worked hard to spark the interest of  Lord Coel Montachade and he was determined to keep it. He secretly studied his companion from the corner of his eye, while pretending to people watch.

Lord Coel Montachade was a beautiful creature, through and through, and could be considered the physical embodiment of the idea that some of the lesser (ie: non-Elven) races had that Elves were "ethereal beings".  His blonde hair was so pale it was almost white in direct sunlight, and his features were delicate, with large, sapphire-colored eyes that always seemed to stare straight through people.  He had the somewhat dreamy, faraway look of Oscar Wilde's lover, but those close to the Elf Lord knew that Coel was always paying attention.

"Mister Grayeus," said Coel, breaking the companionable silence that had fallen between them.  Dior hid a grimace - Coel refused to use his first name, no matter how many times he'd shared the lord's bed.  Nonetheless, he schooled his features into a neutral expression and turned to look at the Elf Lord's regal profile.

"Yes m'Lord?" he replied.

Coel didn't turn to look at the chevalier, instead following the path of a nondescript black carriage pulled by two midnight black stallions, as it passed by and disappeared into the Foreign Quarter.  He narrowed his eyes.

"Have you heard the rumor that the Syltamuls are having their costumes for the Masquerade Ball they're hosting, made by Vincen Chemaux of The Lavish Hand?" he asked, turning finally to glance at his companion.  He was pleased by the attentive look upon Dior's face.

Dior had heard the rumor, but hadn't thought much of it at the time.  "I knew that Lord Callon's personal handmaiden, Livi, was seen exiting Monsieur Chemaux's shop the other day…" he trailed off, not offering further comment.

"Yes, Callon appears to be sharing a new bedmate with the good Lady Syltamul," said Coel. He spoke the other Lord's name with a complicated mix of envy, resentment, and respect. "However, I must confess that I didn't believe the rumors that their new toy wasn't of Elvish or even half-Elvish descent. I've never heard of them having a bedmate from one of the mongrel races."  The blonde Elf sneered. "However, it appears the rumors of their new…companion being Other, must be true.  Otherwise I see no reason to go to The Lavish Hand, instead of the Sparkling Market.

The young Lord Montachade lapsed into silence for a moment, returning his attention to their surroundings. He spoke after a few moments.

"I must also confess that the Syltamuls' mysterious guest has very much piqued my interest."  Coel rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Perhaps a visit to Monsieur Chemaux is warranted…"

Triggerfeet (Lord Travions Mare)

[NPC]

Lord Travion Winterlow

           w/Triggerfeet (his lovely mare)

[OOC: Lord Travion & Triggerfeet from The Horse & Carriage Causeway (The Citadel of Light)]

Travion and his mare, Triggerfeet, had made it to The Sparkling Market at a leisurely pace, and, for his part, the Elf Lord was enjoying the warmth of the afternoon sun on his face.  He didn't know if the mare appreciated the sun.  Thinking about it, Travion reached out and thumped the mare's neck in appreciation.

"Netya mairo," he crooned in a soft voice.  "What a pretty girl.  Are you having a good day? Who's the prettiest lady?" Travion went on like that for a while, chatting inanely away to Triggerfeet and sometimes stroking a gloved hand over her beautiful coat.  Triggerfeet, for her part, only responded with the occasional odd, chuffing sort of snort.

The Elf Lord was proud of Triggerfeet not only because she had the perfect combination of temperament and physicality for hunting, but also due to herl very unusual coloring.  Technically, she was a blue roan, but in bright sunlight her coat had a distinctly greenish sheen to it.  He wasn't sure why her coat had turned out that way (certainly there was nothing in the looks of either the mother or sire that'd hinted at such a unique coloration), but he didn't really care, either; she was a pretty little thing and truly an envy amongst the Noble Houses of the Kingdom Bridgeways.

While Lord Winterlow didn't tend to involve himself overmuch with the various schemes and machinations of his fellow nobles, he wasn't  above flaunting what he had and they wanted.  And amongst the Bridgeways, the Noble House of Winterlow was known for their exceptionally well-bred and beautiful horses and hunting hounds.

He'd lost count of how many offers he'd turned down for Triggerfeet, and he'd received some pretty outrageous offers. The most recent one that stood out in his memory, had been from an overseas traveller who'd not only boasted that they were a great wizard (much respected and renowned in Trinsic, of course!), but also promised that he would take Travion and a party of his choice on an all-expenses paid Dragon Hunting expedition.  And alll they'd wanted was Lord Winterlow's magnificently unusual, one-of-a-kind mare.

Thankfully, Travion wasn't a fool; he knew very well that there weren't any dragons left in the Worlde! He snorted at the memory. After all, if there were dragons about, Travion surely would have hunted one by now.  (Friends of the young Lord Winterlow understood that for all his congeniality and relative dislike of plotting and schemes, he suffered from the fatal flaw of unwarranted overconfidence.)

Chucking to himself, Travion pushed onwards into the Foreign Quarter, suddenly seized by a powerful thirst.

Lord Coel Montachade

Chevalier Dior Grayeus

Dior saw it the minute Coel spotted Lord Travion Winterlow, although at the time he didn't know who or what the beautiful Elf Lord was looking at.

Coel's sapphire blue eyes narrowed slightly as he focused upon something that Dior couldn't yet see, and their color deepened until they looked almost black in the shadows of his long lashes.  The expression that settled over the Elf Lord's delicate features reminded Dior of a cat that knew it had a mouse within easy killing distance of its claws.  Oh, and the mouse has a broken foot.  Coel's lips twitched, before a corner of his mouth tugged up into a wry half-grin.

"On second thought," said Coel, his voice sharp and mocking. "I think we shall take a small detour instead of visiting Monsieur Chemaux."  He gestured discreetly to the side, and Dior surreptitiously looked over to where Coel indicated.

He sighed inwardly as he finally saw Lord Travion Winterlow in the distance, passing through the market on that unusual horse of his.  He made sure that nothing showed on his face, except for a carefully calculated mask of bland surprise.  He didn't immediately reply, and instead watched as Lord Winterlow disappeared down one of the Causeway's side paths that led into the Foreign Quarter.

For whatever reason, Lord Coel Montachade and Lord Travion Winterlow could not pass up any opportunity to, frankly, harass one another.  For bystanders, it was the equivalent of listening to two people throwing oral sucker punches at one another.  (Schoolchildren bullying each other on the playground was probably more accurate.)  He got the impression that it was almost compulsory for both Lords, although he still hadn't decided if their verbal sparring was truly vicious or not.  It didn't feel like either noble actually hated the other, but then again, no noble wore their truth on their sleeve; parsing Lord Coel's truth was especially difficult.

Presently, Dior shifted his attention back to Coel.  There really was only one response.

"As m‘Lord wishes," he replied neutrally.

Coel favoured him with a small smile before he leaned forward and told the driver to take them into the Foreign Quarter.
